Abstract

The effect of fuel change from leaded gasoline to unleaded-oxygenated MTBE- gasoline was evaluated. The atmospheric pollutants and the meteorological parameters were monitored for 24 months. A mobile laboratory was sited in Kuwait University Campus nearby heavy traffic intersection in a typical urban area in Kuwait. The consistent variation of the mean concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) with the rush hours was related to the delayed ozone (O%) build- up. The use of higher oxygen content in MTBE-gasoline compared to leaded gasoline enhanced the complete combustion and hence lowered CO and HC emissions. However, higher oxygen in gasoline yielded an increase in NO* emissions and Os levels. Introduction Motor vehicles make a significant contributi
