Abstract

This paper deals with a key problem facing transport policy makers committed to sustainable development. This is the problem of excessive car use and the need to reduce it, perhaps by making public transport a more attractive option. In particular, it provides suggestions for the evaluation framework to be used in a cost-benefit analysis of car to bus transfer. A central theme of the paper is the eclectic nature of this evaluation process, which involves inputs from many different subject disciplines.
