Abstract

A three-dimensional (3D) model for efficient simulation of tidal circulation in estuarine regions is introduced in this paper. Further, a new hybrid operator splitting (HOS) method is utilized in the numerical formulation. The method uses the operator splitting scheme to divide the momentum equations into three parts, such as advection, horizontal diffusion, and vertical diffusion associated with the potential energy term, and are discretized by Eulerian-Lagrangian method (ELM), finite element method (FEM) and finite difference method (FDM), respectively. The HOS method is proven to be unconditionally stable and highly efficient. The developed model is ap
