Abstract

This paper is a continuing effort to develop a framework for an indicator system to measure Taipei's sustainability (Huang et al.[l]). In order to study the interactive behavior of sustainability indicators, an urban systems model is developed which consists of six subsystems: land use, population, transportation, water resources, solid waste, and waste water. In all, fourteen urban sustainability indicators are included in the model developed. Using Taipei as a case study area, STELLA software is used to simulate the changes of indicators overtime. Three scenarios are formulated to study the likely effects of different urban policies on Taipei's sustainability. 1 Introduction It is expected that one-half of the world's population will live in urban
