Miyagawa* "Faculty of Engineering, Shinshu University, 500 Wakasato, Nagano 380, Japan ^Graduate School of Shinshu University, 500 Wakasato, Nagano 380, Japan ABSTRACT A boundary element design sensitivity analysis system based on the direct differentiation method is presented for the design of arrangement of cooling or heating channels and mold shape. In the modeling of such slender channels, a special type of hole element is available in the boundary integral equations both for the boundary temperature and heat flux and their sensitivity coefficients. The usefulness of the system is demonstrated through some numerical test examples for the design of a compression mold.
