Abstract

Crack analysis by boundary element method is the subject of in this work. The direct boundary element formulation is adopted and the crack influences are taken into account by using the well established integral equations with the presence of an initial stress field. The integral equations achieved here exhibit hypersingular and singular terms which may be treated by appropriate schemes. The final algebraic non-linear system of equations is iteractively solved, as for plasticity or other non- linearity problems. 1. Introduction The boundary element method (BEM) is nowadays recognized as an efficient numerical technique appropriate to solve many problems in engineering [1]. The method appears to be particularly recommended to solve crack problems mainly due to the simple discretization and remeshing req
