The projectiles were fired against the armours at about 1250 m/s. The deformed configurations of the projectiles and the targets were examined after the experiments. The impact experiments were numerically modelled using the AUTODYN-2D program. A time- dependent fracture model for ceramic material previously presented by the authors was implemented in the computer code, in order to represent the ceramic tile behaviour under impact conditions.
