Abstract

Delivered power - trim and sinkage - ship hull forms: an analysis of the effects of the trim variations on the power performance of a class of modern container ships R. Rocchi* Research Department, I.N.S.E.A.N. Via di ABSTRACT The spatial geometry screening methodology has been applied to the analysis of sixty series of self -pro- pulsion experimental data(more than 330 power - speed values) obtained from different container ship models tested at INSEAN at several load and trim conditions. The speed criteria ( FNV ) ranging from .350 to .690 (speeds from 13 to 23 knots and displacements from 16000 to 60000 t).The developed procedure enables the designer :1) to derive independent variables from the body plan 2)to determine the calm water delivered po- wer value with a quite small confidence interval (less than 2.5 %),for each load, trim and speed consi- dered experimental condition. 1 INTRODUCTION After the results obtained in the application of the geometry sc
