Abstract

In recent years, responses of reinforced concrete (RC) structures subjected to loading from high-energy (HE) sources in their vicinity have been reported in the literature. Moreover, intensified terrorist activities have rekindled an interest in studying the response of these structures subjected to loads from both airblast and fragments. Numerical approaches for simulating structural response due to airblast loads have been addressed by many authors. Limited literature discussing numerical simulations of structural response due to fragment loads is available. Approaches simulating the response of RC structures subjected to multiple fragment impact are addressed in this study. A number of finite-element analyses using scalable hardware and software was carried out. The fragments are modeled both explicitly (actual
