Abstract

In the course of this work a new algorithm is proposed to calculate a safety related interval of confidence the true value of a measured quantity violates in average only all 10* to 10" hours. The algorithm is based on modelling sensor precision, MTTF of a sensor, and the drift behavior of a sensor in terms of failure rates. This way a safety related interval of confidence can be calculated without making any assumption about the distribution of the deviation of measured values. This algorithm has been successfully applied to a multi sensor configuration to measure speed and traveled distance of a train using a TWR of the German LZB80 and two Doppler radar devices. 1 Introduction Traditional train control has been discrete speed and positio
