Abstract

Fusion of PCM in finned plane cavities K.A.R. Ismail, M.R.B. Trullenque UNICAMP-FEM-DETF, C.P. 6122, 13081-970 Campinas, SP, Brazil ABSTRACT This paper presents a simplified two dimensional model for the fusion (solidification) of PCM in a rectangular cavity with internal fins. The formulation of the model follows Voller's approach. The results of the model were compared with available experimental and numerical data and the agreement was found good. Geometrical parameters of the cavity such as width, length of fin, thickness of fin and thickness of top and bottom were investigated. Also operational paremeters such as the magnitude of the heat flux and its frequency were also analysed. INTRODUCTION Equipment for the thermal control with phase material (PCM) have received much interest in recent years due to its immediate applications in the field of thermal control and cooling of electrical and electronic equipments.
