Abstract

This paperEs aim is to modified the sample point error analysis method proposed by Kawaguchi and Kamiya, and to develop an h-adaptive quadratic boundary element mesh refinement procedure to be implemented into linear elastic crack problems. Two sample pointed are selected in each of the quadratic boundary element, and the extended error indicators at the sample points are calculated. The h-refmement procedure is based on the average extended error for all of the boundary elements. The stress intensity factors at the crack tip are calculated by the displacement extrapolation method and the J-integral calculation at the end of each iteration. The results show that the use of singular element at the crack is less import
