Abstract

In this paper the basic boundary element formulations for time domain problems are derived. Somigliana's identity which is the basic equation for both the direct and indirect BEM is derived. The direct BEM formulation is implemented for 2-dimensional time domain problems. In the implementation a new integration principle is ap- plied, where the causality of Green's functions is used. The method is applied to on a classic wave propagation problem in soil. The problem of a distributed constant vertical Heaviside type load on an elastic half space is investigated. The problem is analysed with the direct and indirect 2D BEM time domain implementation and the re
