Abstract

The development of the Boundary Element Method for the analysis of three dimensional elasto-plastic problems is discussed in this paper. An analytical algorithm has been developed for the evaluation of the integrals. This algorithm has been used for the analysis of two notched specimens and stress- strain results for the specimens at the plastic region adjacent to the notch are presented in the paper. These results are compared with existing experimental, boundary element and finite element results and good agreement has been achieved. 1 Introduction The first major conference (BEM 1) on the Boundary Element Method (BEM) was held in Southampton in 1978 and since then the method has emerged as a significant numerical tool for the analysis of engineering problems. Its development has seen it become a
