Abstract

Ansaldo Ricerche, in collaboration with Istituto di Tecnologie ed Impianti Meccanici dell' Universita di Genova, has followed the approach of improving a coating technique, through plasma spraying, with metallic carbides blend in order to improve the resistance of the more subject to erosion surfaces, such as turbine blades and nozzles. The first phase of this research has been devoted to test powders, optimising the process parameters and focusing on coatings mechanical and microstructural characteristics; at the end of this preliminary step, it was decided to carry on the research with a chromium carbide based blending.
