Abstract

Knowledge base for evaluation of seismic vulnerability of unreinforced masonry buildings - UMDAS E. Dumova, P. Stojanovski Department of Civil Engineering, University 'Kiril i Metodij', 91001 Skopje, Macedonia ABSTRACT An application of expert systems in earthquake engineering, is proposed in this work. The designed knowledge base UMDAS[1] (acronym of Unreinforced Masonry Damage Analysis System) ena- bles evaluation of damage of existing unreinforced masonry bu- ildings due to the given earthquake. VP-Expert[2] shell wasused as software base for designing of the expert system. Procedure offered in FEMA- 178[3] was used to define particular buil- ding's quality and relations, Damage Factor - Earthquake In- tensity, defined by Stojanovski et al.[4] make possible evalu- ation of physical damage due to the given earthquake. INTRODUCTION Countries and regions with a high seismic risk devote substan- tial resources to mitigate the seismic risk posed by existing
