Berkle? & J. ~ineault' 'proto Manufacturing Limited, Oldcastle, Ontario, Canada 2~atigue Management Associates, LLC, Jupiter FL, USA Abstract Rotating aircraft engine components operating at temperature under high applied cyclic loads are often subject to low cycle fatigue (LCF) effects. Relaxation of residual stresses in such components is often a result of LCF and is most commonly observed in geometrical areas where localized plasticity occurs, i.e. areas where the applied loads exceed the cyclic yield strength of the material. The magnitude of residual stress in these areas has been observed to decrease linearly with the number of take off and landing cycles (TACs).
