Abstract

The combination of stochastic surface description and asperity deformation models results in contact laws, which can be used in a thermomechanical analysis. Application of the derived laws in a thermomechanical finite element formulation is presented. 1 Introduction As product and development cycles become shorter and computing power becomes less expensive, the need for more powerful simula- tion tools is raised. An increasing field of interest is the solution of coupled problems, like thermo- or electromechanical problems. Ther- momechanical coupling is of special interest in the context of contact problems as friction is always connected with dissipative heat gener- ation. Typical applications are brake design and metal forming. 2 Thermoelastic body We start with the equations
