Abstract

The aim of this research was to study the effect which residual stresses have on the fatigue behaviour of specimen of high strength structural steel after welding. Specimen of the high strength structural steel S355J2G3 and S890QL were dinamically loaded under alternating loading. The residual stresses were measured before and after the loading. In order to determine the effect of residual stresses for both kinds of steel two different welding sequences were adopted, so that residual stresses of different amounts were induced at the toe of the butt welds. The loaded beams present S-N curves, which are in accordan
