Abstract

: A study is carried out of the bore as it encounters a narrow ridge-type barrier in quiescent water. Both the critical and non-critical cases are considered. Expressions for the disturbance caused are derived and the evolution equations involved are solved numerically. 1 Introduction This paper studies a bore as it encounter a barrier. Several authors have investigated a fluid flow caused when a disturbance is encountered; Akylas [1], Cole[2], Kevorkian and Yu [3] to mention just a few. In [3] Kevorkian and Yu have discussed the effect of a small isolated bottom disturbance on a shallow water flow. They extend their work in a more recent paper Yu and Kevorkian [4] to include the effects of strong bores and small disturbances. In this later work the case of a strong bore with quiescent water over an isolated distribution was considered,
