Abstract

The estimation of hydrodynamic loadings on submerged bodies has a lot of significance in designing these structures. Analytical expressions for the exciting forces due to diffraction effects due to a submerged sphere has been derived. Theory of multipole expansions has been used in obtaining the velocity potential in terms of an infinite series of associated Legendre polynomials with unknown coefficients. Numerical results for the surge (hor- izontal) and heave (vertical) exciting forces have been presented in graphical forms for various depth to radius ratios. 1 Introduction The forces exerted by the surface waves on a structure in water are very important for designing these structures. Accurate pre- diction of wave loads becomes indispensable in order to design
