Abstract

Wave propagation velocity was experimentally determined in the present work based on the three following methodologies: - by measuring the travel time of a surge wave between two transducers at known distance; - by using Joukowsky's expression to estimate the maximum water hammer overpressure; - by using numerical methods for the analysis of the signal detected in the laboratory; The latter seems to be absolutely new at least in the modes in which it has been applied in this work. These methods are related to a different meaning of the physical parameter measured (speed of the first progressive wave in the first and in the second cases, mean wavespeed over a time interval in the third one) as well as to a different function of the error.
