Abstract

The aim of the present paper is the simulation of water movement during vertical one dimensional drainage, in samples of uniform sandy soil, laid on a porous capse of a very small saturation hydraulic conductivity. The Richards' equation was solved using finite differences with upper and lower boundary conditions zero flux and a condition type III (Fourier) respectively, taking into account the impedance of the porous capse. The results were obtained for a coarse, a medium and a fine sandy soil, Comparison between experimental measurements and computed results was made. 1 introduction The movement of water through unsaturated porous media is described by Richards' partial differential equation subjected to appropriate boundary and initial conditions. The equations has many applica
