Abstract

Surficial sediment samples collected from Kaohsiung Harbour were analyzed for polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) to discriminate their compositional patterns and distributing characteristics. According to our results, concentrations of total PAH and total PCB in sediments ranged from 63.5 ng/g dw to 6261.7 ng/g dw and from 3.0 ng/g dw to 649.2 ng/g dw, respectively. In comparison with sediment quality guidelines (SQGs), only 21.7% of studied sites of all three cruises could bear \“occasional biological effects” according to total PAH concentrations. However, almost eighty p
