Abstract The Temengor Hydroelectric Project (348 MW) was constructed between 1974 and 1978, it is one of the four major hydro projects built on the upper Sungai Perak. The other three projects are namely Bersia (72 MW), Kenering (120 MW) and Chenderoh (40 MW). The electricity demand in Peninsular Malaysia experienced an average annual growth rate of about 13% to 14% in the early and mid-nineties prior to the outbreak of the financial crisis in 1997. Subsequent to the financial crisis, there was a substantial drop in the electricity demand for the years 1997198 and 1998199. The demand for electricity then rapidly increased by more than 11% in 199912000.
