Oovell, K. ~ u r k ' & J. ~ u ~ u s t i n ~ 'Institute of Geography, University of Tartu, Estonia 2~nstitute of Primary Production and Microbial Ecology, Centre for Agricultural Landscape and Land Use Research (ZALF), Germany Abstract This work presents N and P budgets of a horizontal subsurface flow (HSSF) constructed wetland (CW; 2 chambers, 25x6.25x0.8 m each, sealed with polyethylene liner, filled with coarse sand, one planted with Typha latifolia but dominated now by Scirpus sylvestris, and the other planted with Iris pseudacorus and Phragmites australis but covered at present by P. australis, receiving a septic tank effluent of 40-60 population equivalents (pe)) constructed in 1996 for treatment of wastewater from a hospital in Kodijwe, Tartu County, Estonia.
