Abstract

Modeling the water consumption of the sparse canopy: Operational approach E. Personne, A. Tuzet, A. Perrier UMR Environnement et Grandes Cultures. INA PG/INRA. France Abstract The soil water balance is a key point of the processes which govern the surface heat and water flux. A model calculating the soil water change of a sparse canopy is presented. The proposed scheme is suitable for the studies of the heterogeneous covers which share out their water resources between various types of plants. The objective of this work is to show that we can simply and mechanistically integrate into the model the spatial variability of the water transfers in the soil and in the atmosphere. In our approach, the variability of the microclimate induced by the sparse canopy is described within a radial symmetry allowing to discretisize the horizontal heterogeneity of the cover. This approach is an alternative i) to the use of the models of energy and mass transfer in three dimensions appropriat
