Abstract

In the field campaign PIPAPO in summer 1998 continuous measurement of volatile hydrocarbons, i.e. €4 to QO compounds including isoprene, was performed at two sites in the Milan area in Italy. Measurements were carried out with a time resolution of 30 minutes by two GC-FID instruments AirmoVOC HC1010. In Bresso, 7 km northern to downtown Milan, due to hydrocarbon emissions originating from the surrounding airport, road traffic and gas stations strong changing concentrations with toluene mixing ratios of up to 55 ppbv were found usually occurring during inversions at night. Iri contrast, the air at the rural site in Verzago, 35 km northern to downtown Milan, was much less polluted than Bresso with highest mixing ratios
