Box 800, Riyadh 11421, Saudi Arabia Abstract The rapid development of Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, over the past decade was accompanied by improved standard of living and increased population and associated activities and services such as transportation, electric power generation, and industrialization. As a result, the air quality both ambient and indoor became an important issue for the city. A funded research project was conducted during the period July 1992 through November 1994. The project was designed to evaluate indoor and ambient air quality in and around buildings of different types and uses in Riyadh. Thirty intercity buildings and two outercity (background) sites were carefully selected and monitored for air quality.
