Abstract

The Urban Atmosphere Model: SUBMESO A contribution to the subproject SATURN S. Anquetin, J.P. Chollet, A. Coppalle, P. Mestayer and IF. Sini correspondence :A . Coppalle, UMR 6614 CORIA, Campus du Madrillet INSA, Avenue de L 'Universite - BP 8, 76801 Saint Etienne du Rouvray cedex, France Aims of the research The SUBMESO urban atmosphere model has been developed on the basis of existing meso-scale sub-models for dynamics and microphysics and on novel specific urban sub-models designed for complex soils/urban canopy, for polluted atmospheric chemistry and for turbulence production/destruction close to the ground. In a comparison with the rural case, the urban grounds are not homogeneous and their dynamic and thermal properties change the transfer to the soil and change the surface layer characteristics of the atmospheric boundary layer. So the main objective of the group which develops SUBMESO and participates in the SATURN subproject
