Abstract

The ADOM Model System for Mercury and Persistent Organic Pollutants A contribution to subproject MEPOP O Kriiger and G. Petersen GKSS Research Centre, Institiute ofHydrophysics, Max-Planck-Strasse, D-21502 Geesthacht, Germany A comprehensive atmospheric model system using the Eulerian reference frame of the Acid Deposition and Oxidant Model (ADOM) is being developed to study the emissions, atmospheric transport, chemical transformations and deposition fluxes of mercury and persistant organic pollutants (POPs) over Europe. Fig. 1 shows schematically the various components of the mercury version of the ADOM-model system. For European applications, ADOM needs specific input data in terms of land use data, emission data bases and meteorological data. A new land use data base for Europe has been provided by the Dutch RIVM. This data base has been adapted to the ADOM grid system. New
