Hewitt Institute of Environmental and Natural Sciences, Lancaster University, LAI 4YQ, UK Introduction The emission of isoprene by vegetation became a subject of considerable interest when it was first realised that this compound plays a key role in determining tropospheric ozone concentrations in certain areas. The work presented here is a contribution toward continuing efforts by several workers to identify and quantify isoprene emissions from vegetation. These data are essential to improve existing predictive emission algorithms and to minimise the variability in base emission rate values used in these algorithms.
