Abstract

Compound channel flow models are generally not easy to include in water profile computation software as they do not supply immediate energy slope value. A new model is proposed where the formulation of the momentum transfer at the interface between main channel and floodplains is expressed as an additional energy slope. This model has been successfully incorporated in a hydraulic software and tested against a case study. 1 Introduction Current river engineering often relies on accurate flow and water profile numerical modelling, enabling the study of flood waves, water level evolution during major floods, impact of river works, and many other features. One-dimensional modelling is generally satisfactory for that purpose and only require
