Abstract

Sediments are suspended and mobilized by wave-induced fluid motion as well as tidal and riverine currents in the coastal zone. For a site in Lavaca Bay, Texas, the wind and hydrodynamic climates are such that sediments are deposited due to every day conditions. The depositional environment has created a lens of clean sediments that overlies a layer of contaminated sediments. The Texas Gulf coast is also prone to hurricanes, which may supply sufficient energy to the system to resuspend sediments.
