Abstract

A method for isotropic interpolation of CO, NOx and O$ in and around the city of Padua is applied. The purposes are an understand- ing of the mean structure of the distribution of these pollutants and an help to the local public authority deciding where to put new fixed monitoring stations. The method (Van Egmond and Onderdelinden [4]) is based on a distance of influence of the existing fixed stations, which is characteristic of the spatial statistical structure of the pollu- tant. The authors also proved the equivalence of this method to other more sophisticated ones. The value of the characteristic distance of in- fluence for the existing seven fixed monitoring stations is found by the recoursive least squares between predicted and measured concentra- tions in 44 different locations.
