Abstract

In the alpine region, tracer experiments were conducted in the past to simulate the air masses transport in mountainous regions. For one of these experiments (TRANSALP 1990), the model RAMS is used to calculate the flow, in its non- hydrostatic configuration, due to the highly complex terrain. RAMS was initialised with a vertical profile from the campaign and a multiple nested grid configuration was selected to solve both local flow and large scale circulation over the area. Two turbulence closure schemes are employed in the model and their effect on the circulation are analysed. The time-dependent RAMS fields are used to drive the Lagrangian particle model MONTECARLO.
