Abstract

A numerical investigation of the transient behavior of a doubly-diffusive flow under the influence of combined heating and shear is presented. The analysis is based on a one-dimensional algebraic stress/flux turbulence model (ASM), which produces a set of nine partial differential equations and six algebraic equations. The partial differential equations were solved by an implicit finite difference technique. The numerically produced temperature and density profiles as they evolved with time as well as the entrainment rates at the interface are compared with their correspondent experimental data. The numerical simulations agree qualitatively with experimental
