Abstract

Three catalyst cars are measured for their emissions and fuel consumption by on- the-road experiments, using an in-house developed on-board measuring system. The resulting emissions, for different road types, can be used as realistic input data for traffic emission models. Normal driving behaviour results in higher emissions than the emission factors used in the Netherlands. E.g. in the city with cold start the CO and HC+NO% emissions are respectively 70% and 300% higher. Aggressive driving results in still higher emissions. 1 Introduction As in many other countries, in Belgium road transport is an important source of air pollution. In 1992 it was estimated to be responsible for 90% of the carbon monoxide (CO), 45% of the total hydrocarbons (HC), 61% of the nitrogen oxides (NO%) and 22% of the carbon dioxide (CO2)
