Abstract

Mobile source emissions modelling has moved a long way in the last decade but is still quite far from achieving some of the prediction capabilities needed for air pollution control measures to be both defendable as well as effective. New developments sparked by the deployment of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) (or Intelligent Transportation Systems -ITS) can provide significant improvements both in the calibration of new models as well as in the subsequent use of models for the measurement of emissions. Improvements can also be realized in the area of individual vehicle emission controls but this concept is beyond the scope of the present paper. New model structures with more accurate prediction capabilities and with outputs that are mo
