Abstract

This paper reports a formulation and implementation of a mixed boundary element method for solving Stokes flow problems involving elastic particles. The method consists of solving an exterior traction problem for the sur- rounding fluid, followed by an interior displacement, and a mobility problem (if required) for the elastic particles. A completion plus deflation procedure is employed in the three problems, allowing iterative solution strategies to be adopted. Several benchmark problems are considered to illustrate the method. 1 Introduction The best numerical method for solving exterior Stokes flow problems is un- doubtedly the boundary element method, in which the governing equations are first converted into a set of integral equations on the surface of the domain, a
