Abstract

A new methodology is proposed for designing transient surface heat fluxes for applications involving inverse Stefan processes where the interfacial surface motion is prescribed. This antecedent investigation uses a bound- ary integral formulation for demonstrating the merit of the proposed mathematical model which incorporates physical constraints. A Volterra integral equation of the first kind is developed for the unknown surface heat flux. Preliminary results suggest that the methodology possesses excellent numerical characteristics which tend to alleviate difficulties as- sociated with inverse design problems. 1 Introduction Inverse analysis appears in numerous facets of engineering and physics.
