Abstract

In this paper the dual boundary element method is presented for two- dimensional anisotropic crack problems. The dual equations of the method, namely the displacement and traction boundary integral equations, are for- mulated in terms of the fundamental solution for anisotropic elastostatics problems to enable modelling of crack problems in a single region. The mixed-mode stress intensity factors are evaluated by the J-integral and the ratio of relative displacements technique. Numerical examples of plane geometries and crack growth problems in unidirectional and symmetrical laminates of composite materials are presented. 1 Introduction The boundary element method is now well
