Abstract

This paper presents error estimation and relevant adaptive mesh refinement schemes for boundary element analysis of the plane quasi-harmonic equa- tion, by applying the "sample point error estimation" and the "extended error indicator" proposed by Kamiya and K aw ague hi. The developed pro- gram will be applied to the torsional stress analysis of a stepped shaft in order to confirm its validity. 1 Introduction Boundary element method can solve a problem by boundary discretization alone when the object is governed by linear and homogeneous differential equations. Since, however, the computational accuracy is strongly depen- dent on a boundary element discretization employed, several kinds of error estimation and ada
