Abstract:
This paper proposes a "constrained least squares approach" for correlating
analytical and experimental data within the framework of a hybrid technique
while simultaneously accounting for errors present in the boundary
measurements.
The boundary element "analytical" method is utilized to
determine the stresses and displacements on the boundary of an elastic body
having random experimental errors in the boundary data.
It is illustrated that if
the boundary data with random errors are (i) combined with a least squares
approach for the minimization of the effects of the measurement error and (ii)
constrained so that certain analytical requirements are imposed upon the solution,
the resu...
