Abstract

The National Laboratory for Civil Engineering (LNEC), in co-operation with the Portuguese Railways (CP), has developed a software system named "RECTIF" for the optimization of rail curves alignment. Recent developments have taken place in order to adapt the said system for installation at and interfacing with in- vehicle systems that control the works carried out along the rail track by tamping machines. A presentation is made of the most important issues dealt with in this process, the main characteristics of the system, and the results obtained following its installation and testing. 1 Introduction The past twenty years have witnessed the development of a great num
