Seismic Risk Evaluation in the Area of the Province of Salerno

Abstract:
A preliminary analysis is presented of the seismic risk assessment in the Province of Salerno to be used as a basis for the definition of Prediction and Prevention programs.

In this study, the evaluation of the seismic hazard in the area has been carried out using two approaches: historical determinism and seismotectonic probabilism.

Several maps illustrating the seismic risk are presented and discussed.

The vulnerability of constructions, primary infrastructures, and the social system is evaluated by means of a statistical approach based on an analysis of the effects produced by the earthquake of 23 November 1980, using a representative sample of the entire regional territory.
