18, Universitat fur Bodenkultur, A-1180 Vienna, Austria Introduction The investigation of horizontal transport of ozone (Os) and precursors towards the Alpine region on the meso-p -scale was one of the objectives of the EU rsearch project VOTALP that ended in February 1998.

Special emphasis was laid on the identification of emission areas that are potentially important for the ozone concentrations in the Alps.

The following basic questions are studied. * Where does air reaching the Alpine region come from? * Which pathways are associated with very high or very low measured Os concentrations? * What amount of O, is formed during the transport along the trajectories towards th...
