1 Introduction:
The case for text mining in an intelligence environment seems on one hand compelling and surely the practice of different intelligence and security agencies confirms this assumption.

On the other hand this paper will explore what are the subtle implications of text mining in the interaction between intelligence and political decision-making.

The conclusion is that text mining is a powerful tool, but that it is no substitute highly educated analysts; in other words it is an enabling tool, but not a personnel cutting one.

The US declaration of war on terrorism after the 11th of September tragedy has given a new impulse to the counterterrorist task in the intelligence services around the world.

In addition to that, at least in the US services, the lack of credible HUMINT assets continues to spur the search for technological solutions to shortcomings that still require time to be remedied. 2 11 Sept., intelligence and information explosion It is important to consider some aspects of the 11 Sept.
