Abstract

Based on the relative relationships between the traffic volumes at intersections, we study the traffic volume of non-detector single signal controlled intersections prediction and the results are examined by the traffic volume data of the road network of Nanjing City. The problem of the lanes’ traffic volume prediction of non-detector single signal controlled intersections is resolved by this achievement. Some theoretical basis for macroscopic management is also provided by these methods. Keywords: ITS, Cluster Analysis, main-component analysis, traffic flow information. 1 Introduction With the ever fast progress of the world’s economy, the traffic volume of the world’s metropolises in the world is increasing quickly, and the consequence of this is the severe traffic jam. To some degree it restricts people from going out. In U.S.A, the loss in monetary terms to traffic jam and delay is estimated to be more than 100 billions U.S. dollars. If these problems are not solved, they will continue to constitute an obstacle to social progress. To effectively improve the management of a city’s traffic, every country applies modern science and technology, such as traffic control system, traffic flow guidance system, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) etc. With the development of roads network in most metropolises around the world there are also increased number of dots within the roads network (Here dots refer to signal controlled intersections.). The modern management of road network in a city must be based
