Abstract

A modified variational boundary element formulation for potential problems P. Lu\ 0. Mahrenholtz Arbeitsbereich Meerestechnik II, Technischen Universitdt Hamburg-Ear burg, D-2100 Hamburg 90, Germany ABSTRACT This paper presents a modified variational boundary element formulation for potential problems, in which the independent variables, i.e. potentials and fluxes on the boundary and potentials inside the domain, can be chosen independently without any subsidiary requirement. This formulation is an improvement for the variational functional proposed by [1]. INTRODUCTION Recent years, many researchers have paid attentions to the development ot symmetric boundary element models to overcome some difficuties ot con- ventional direct or indirect boundary element methods. In these works, most of the derivations are based on variational principles, which have the advantages to be easily to couple with FEM to solve various problems and show some good numerical properti
